IFI’s staff will call you as soon as we receive your referral. The referral includes a small photo of a child, along with their medical report. Unfortunately IFI has no control over the details of the medical report for a referral from China or Vietnam since the government sends it. They do honor the parent’s preference for sex, age, and health condition of the child.

In addition to a small picture and medical history, referrals from India include a brief child study stating their height and weight, how the orphanage received the child, who relinquished the child, why and under what circumstances the child was abandoned, etc.

IFI immediately mails the referral to you for your approval and consent. If approved, the referral is returned to IFI to be sent overseas to begin the court procedures for you to gain guardianship documents or travel permission.
